Tuesday 1st June – UCD Innovation Research Unit Lecture Series

Attracting and embedding the R&D of multinational companies: policy implications for the EU and its member states - Dr. Jose Guimo

Dr. Jose Guimon, Department of Economic Structure and Development Economics, Universidad Autonoma de Madrid. Since R&D across the world is very concentrated in multinational corporations, their location decisions have a major impact on the global distribution of R&D activities. Moreover, attracting and embedding the R&D activity of multinationals may enable local firms to benefit from spillover effects and to better integrate into global innovation networks. This helps explain the increased competition among countries to attract international investment in R&D. This presentation will focus on the case of the EU from a policy perspective.
