Wednesday 20th April – UCD Festival of Research & Innovation – Health and Healthcare Delivery

This is the second one-day symposium in a series of four events taking place during the current academic year 2010/2011 highlighting the main research themes across UCD. The focus of the first event, which took place on 8 December 2010, was "Earth Sciences, Energy and the Environment" where more than 70 principal investigators (PIs), postdoctoral fellows and graduate students took part.

The main theme of the upcoming event is "Health and Healthcare Delivery", with a primary focus on presentations from PIs and emerging investigators that highlight (1) convergence between the disciplines, (2) translational research, and/or (3) effective industry-academia partnerships. Investigators and associated research staff from all Colleges and Schools within UCD are invited to attend this event. The festival is intended to be an internal event that will showcase research and innovation to a UCD audience, but also to interested industry representatives and funding agencies.

The following cross-cutting topics will be addressed during the event: - Lifespan: Food, Ageing and Independent Living - New Insights into Disease Mechanisms - E-Health and Personalised Medicine - Drug Development in the Academic Arena - Next Generation Medical Devices The format of the event will be a combination of 15 min overview talks on major research programmes, plus 5 min short talks on discrete research projects/case studies (exact programme to be determined over coming weeks). As well as celebrating research excellence, the event will provide researchers with additional opportunities to network and may help individuals to develop new ideas for research projects or for potential research programmes.
